Make complex project work easier to navigate
Total Synergy · 2017–2019 Principal Product Designer & Design System Lead Professional services software has to make dense information useful: projects, people, budgets, time and financial performance. My work focused on bringing clearer interaction patterns to that complexity while working within an evolving product. The challenge was both immediate and systemic: improve the workflows people use every day, and establish patterns that make the next improvement easier to deliver.
Create patterns that work across the product
Forms and tables carry much of the work in a business application. I developed clearer layouts and responsive patterns, using Angular Material as a foundation while considering how new components would coexist with the existing interface.
Make the budget model visible
Budgeting introduces a different kind of complexity: people need to understand what the system calculates and what they can change. The design work explored automatic and manual budget modes, team building and the controls needed to move between them.
Bring the important information into focus
Project financials, team information and leave records needed distinct hierarchies within a coherent product. These examples show how information design and reusable interaction patterns worked together.
What this work demonstrates
Product design in an established application means balancing immediate usability with the cost of change. This project brought together workflow design, responsive interfaces, component thinking and close attention to implementation.
